Health & Safety Specialist, Nyborg, Denmark
Do you want to be the Safety Shoulder and make a real difference to safety in one of Europe's most complex industrial environments?
Be the trusted Health & Safety voice in daily operations at NG Nordic's hazardous waste treatment facility in Nyborg.
As Health & Safety Specialist, you will work close to the operational teams, helping managers and employees turn safety requirements into practical actions. You will be part of a five-person team in Nyborg and work as an integrated partner to Operations.
Nyborg is a Seveso III facility and is described as the EU's largest hazardous waste treatment plant. Here, health and safety is not simply a compliance exercise: the risks are real, and your work can have a direct impact on people, processes and operational reliability.
Your role combines visible presence in the plant with reporting, statistics, procedures, training and improvement projects. You will advise and challenge Operations constructively, build trust across functions and help ensure a safe, professional operation.
The position is based in Nyborg and requires regular engagement with employees, supervisors and managers throughout the facility.
You will turn safety requirements into practical improvements in daily operations
You will participate in daily and weekly operational meetings, identify and prioritise EHSQ risks, and help the organisation address the issues that matter most. You will balance proactive safety work with administrative responsibilities and timely follow-up.
Your key tasks will include:
Acting as the Health & Safety partner to Operations, advising managers and employees and participating in daily and weekly operational meetings
Conducting safety walks, workplace inspections, toolbox talks and awareness activities, and following up on identified risks
Preparing safety reports, statistics and KPI follow-up, identifying trends and recommending actions
Developing and implementing practical safety procedures, training programmes, onboarding and contractor inductions
Supporting risk assessments, audits, investigations and structured root-cause analyses of incidents and near misses
Driving and prioritising safety improvement projects, monitoring corrective actions and supporting compliance with Danish legislation, internal standards and Seveso-related requirements
Experience from health and safety in industrial operations
We imagine that you have a relevant technical or health and safety qualification and approximately five years or more of experience in a comparable operational environment. Experience from process industry, chemicals, hazardous waste, energy or other high-risk facilities is especially relevant.
You understand occupational health and safety legislation, operational risk assessments, incident investigation, safety management systems and the importance of effective training and documentation. You are comfortable working with reports, statistics and digital tools.
You can translate complex safety requirements into clear, workable solutions.
You communicate confidently in Danish and English, both verbally and in writing, and you know how to engage colleagues across functions and organisational levels.
You build credibility through presence, sound judgement and constructive dialogue. You have the natural authority to challenge unsafe practices while maintaining trust and respect, and you are robust enough to handle disagreement and pressure.
You are structured, proactive and able to prioritise competing tasks. You enjoy combining hands-on operational work with analysis, administration and continuous improvement, always keeping the most significant risks in focus.
